The American Made Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is more American made than you may think.
The Toyota Tundra is produced in the heart of what some may consider “truck country”, San Antonio, Texas. Toyota Motor Manufacturing broke ground and began to build their San Antonio facility in 2003. Finally opening their doors in 2006, the facility was built on land that had ranching history dating back to 1794. When the 2,678 acres were purchased for this project, Toyota wanted to ensure there was plenty of natural space along the creek and river the facility would sit next to. To ensure this land was kept untouched, Toyota donated a total of 678 acres of land to the city of San Antonio for preservation.
Sitting on 2,000 acres of land, this facility employs nearly 4,000 individuals. With the main models in production being the Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, and Sequoia Hybrid; 181,872 vehicles were produced in 2023 alone. Toyota Texas celebrated their 20th anniversary of assembling trucks and SUVs in the Lone Star state. The manufacturing plant does more than simply create jobs in their community, they also care deeply for the community that they serve. Toyota Texas is regularly making investments into the people who reside in San Antonio, with a large focus on education and community engagement.
At the end of the day, the Tundra has always been made right here in the United States. At the beginning of its inception in Indiana, and exclusively at Toyota Texas from 2006 to the present day. Not only has the Tundra production remained in the United States for the entirety of it’s production, but 60% of the parts are also domestically sourced. When lined up against some of the well-known “USA Made” brands, the Toyota Tundra is in fact more American made.
In the cars.com annual “American Made Index” report, the Tundra clocked in at number 12 for the 2023 calendar. For context, the well-known Ford F-150 ranked poorly at number 66. When the concept of the Toyota Tundra was made a reality, the brand was committed to making an American-made truck for the American truck driver. Today, Toyota still stands true to this statement.
