The elevated 2027 Highlander is making its debut with an all-electric powertrain
The reimagined 2027 Highlander is making moves as the first third-row all-electric powertrain SUV in the New Toyota lineup. This upgrade introduces a sleek and versatile new look to the long-time favorite third-row SUV. The modern take on the original Toyota Highlander elevates its style inside and out. The exterior features it’s enhanced body style with clean lines and broad fenders, and flush handles for a high-tech and aerodynamic appeal. The interior follows the tech-forward vibe equipped with a larger, 14″ multimedia screen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 12.3 in driver display, and ambient lighting throughout. Plus, device charging ports throughout the cabin with options in each row. To enhance the upgraded interior, the all-new 2027 Highlander will also debut the largest fixed glass panoramic roof in the Toyota lineup.
The battery electric powertrain comes standard on the 2027 Toyota Highlander in two available grades, Limited and XLE. The XLE grade will be available in available in front or all-wheel drive. The XLE comes standard with the 77.0-kWh battery, while the AWD model has the option of 77.0kWh or 95.8-kWh battery. The Limited grade comes standard in AWD with a 95.8kWh battery. No matter which grade you choose, the new 2027 Highlander will have the latest safety and entertainment technology, with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0.
The Toyota Highlander has always been a top contender for midsize SUV, now provides a more spacious interior for up to 7 passengers. The cabin provides an elevated feel with standard softex seating, soft-touch elements on the doors and dash, and customizable ambient lighting throughout. Heated front row seats come standard, with an available upgrade to heated and ventilated front seats. The second row comes standard with bucket seats, with the option to upgrade to bench seating and heated seats. When extra space is needed, the third row conveniently folds flat for more than 45 cubic feet of storage.
New to Toyota’s tech, the 2027 Highlander can serve as a mobile power source using vehicle-to-load technology (V2L). This tech can be used to power appliances or serve as a backup power source in an outage scenerio, making for the perfect Iowa Hawkeyes tailgate vehicle, or as a power source during the Midwest’s unpredictable storm seasons. More details on the V2L tech will become available closer to the release date of the 2027 Toyota Highlander.
One of the main selling points for battery electric vehicles (BEV) is their ability to get up and go, thanks to the low center of gravity and powerful torque. The goal with the new Highlander was to create a BEV that catered to the lifestyle of midsize SUV drivers. With a quiet ride and quick acceleration, the performance of the new Highlander will not disappoint. The FWD model has 221 net combined horsepower with 198 lb.-ft. of max torque, while the AWD has 338 net combined horsepower and 323 lb.-ft. of max torque. The 2027 Toyota Highlander will be assembled right here in the United States at the Georgetown, Kentucky Toyota Manufacturing facility. Batteries will also be sourced locally in the U.S. from the newly opened battery assembly plant in Liberty, North Carolina. The 2027 Toyota Highlander will be the fourth BEV in Toyota’s vast new vehicle lineup joing the Toyota bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR models. Soon, Toyota will have 22 different models with electrified powertrains to join their impressive lineup.
