The process of purchasing a New Toyota has evolved in recent years. With several moving parts, it can easily become confusing. Here at Toyota Muscatine, we want to make sure our customers and sales staff are on the same page every step of the way. We have created this page to breakdown the basic steps of purchasing a New Toyota at Toyota Muscatine.

Commonly Used Terms

The vehicle is scheduled to be assembled at one of many Toyota factories.

  • Freight (F Status)

The vehicle assembly is completed and is being shipped to the dealership in one of three ways:

    • Cargo ship coming overseas
    • Railway car in the US/Canada
    • Transport truck in the US
  • Ground (G Status)

The vehicle is arrived at the dealership .

Where is Your Toyota Being Assembled?

When you plan to make a new vehicle purchase, do you think about where that vehicle comes from? Toyota has a plethora of factories all around the world. Below, we broke down where each Toyota model is assembled and shipped from. This aids in understanding why certain models spend more time in the “Freight” status than others do. Since there are several ways vehicles are transported to us, it fluctuates the time frame dependent on the shipping method. Let’s see where your vehicle is being built!

Steps to Taking Home Your New Toyota

Now that you know some common terms we use and where your Toyota is being built, it’s time to get into the nitty gritty. We will touch on the steps from your first interaction with us, to you driving off the lot in your New Toyota. At Toyota Muscatine, we do not require any up-front costs for reserving your new vehicle. Let’s take a deeper dive on this process!

  1. Make an appointment with one of our skilled Sales Consultants to discuss your desired new Toyota.
  2. Clarify the details of the Toyota model you want (features, add-ons, color, etc.)
  3. Get on our waiting list for the specific Toyota model you desire if it’s not readily available.
  4. When we get to your turn on the waiting list, we will call you! This means we have been allocated a Toyota that closely fits your needs/wants.
  5. If you choose to say yes, you will set up an appointment with your Sales Consultant. At this time your trade-in will be appraised (if applicable), discuss finance details, and put down a $250 deposit to hold that vehicle.
  6. Now is the waiting period. Your Sales Consultant will reach out to you periodically updating you on the status of your new Toyota.
  7. When your Toyota has switched to freight status, we will have the true VIN number. At this time we can submit a credit application (if applicable).
  8. When your Toyota arrives at the dealership (ground status), your Sales Consultant will set up an appointment with you to complete the purchasing process.
  9. Come in for your appointment to fill out paper work with our finance department. At this time, your Sales Consultant will go over all the features of your new Toyota and answer any questions you have.
  10. Drive off the lot and enjoy your brand new Toyota! Remember – give us a call at 5,000 miles to set up your first ToyotaCare appointment with Service.
